Diane, thank you for sharing your LLL meeting. It's good to be reminded of
the value of learning breastfeeding and mothering in a setting of peers.

>Friday's LLL meeting here was a classic, and a potent reminder of why LCs
>need to have ties to their local LLL, and encourage their clients to
>attend.

Mothers need much more than we as LCs can offer, and this on-going
comraderie and support are what can keep a mom breastfeeding beyond the 3
month or 6 month period. I attend LLL meetings several times a year just for
fun and I enjoy seeing moms whom I have worked with months before, so
comfortable with their babies and so confident in themselves. Sometimes I
hardly recognize them as the same women who were overwhelmed, anxious, and
so unsure of what they were doing.

>The new AAP guidelines were passed around and discussed.

And did anyone notice that there isn't much there that LLL hasn't been
teaching for 40 years? The research finally caught up.

>I could have given most of this to a client as an LC, but moms hearing it
>from other moms, and from so many other moms, and in so many different
>ways, is just an irreplaceable - and gloriously normal - way to learn and
>enjoy and grow.

Yes, "gloriously normal" and non-medical.
