I have received several inquiries about the Belly Balls. I originally saw
them at a Lamaze Breastfeeding Specialist Program presented by Jeanette
Crenshaw in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida last October. Hers were "homemade" so for all
of you who desire and can't get a set of the Ameda Belly Balls here is how
Jeanette's looked. Easy to make up. Renee and I (coworkers in crime) went back
to our made ours up and they were great!
You need a drawstring pouch big enough to hold all these....First Jeanette
pulled out a marble (Day 1 and Day 2 baby stomach size), then she pulled out a
"shooter marble" (the big fat marble in a set of marbles) Day 3 size.
Smaller marble holds 5-7ml, larger 10ml. Then she pulled out a golf ball ( Ameda
uses a red ping pong ball ) this is Day 10, it holds approximately 30ml.
Ameda has a lovely card in explaining this in a clear ziplock freezer style bag.
Jeanette added one other ball....a softball signifying an adult stomach size.
When I tell parents that their stomachs are only that big they are amazed,
especially the Dads.
I have used the concept also in teaching Gestational Diabetic Moms who
think they are pregnant and need to eat anything and everything. It helps people
understand that frequent feeds are more in fitting with the design of the
organ.
So there's the recipe....for Belly Balls. In case you can't get the Ameda
ones. Actually if you have several people in a group this is really a good way
to get a set for everyone.
Hope this helps.
