The Canadian Paediatric Society just put out a "Clinical Practice Guideline"
for holiday and maternity leave for paediatric residents. They recommend
that "residents are entitled to parental or adoptive leave of up to 17
unpaid weeks. If a resident is unable to return at the end of this time,
the leave may be extended at the discretion of the program director". They
also did a survey of various programmes. Of those they published, McGill
University (Montreal) has the best maternity leave for residents in
paediatrics. "20 weeks at 95% pay plus additional 10 weeks if necessary at
65% pay". Quebec City has 20 paediatric residents, 19 of whom are women.
They only say their policy is set under agreement with the residents' union.

Just for your interest.
