hi, again,
i just got a call from another mom in our group. she's already
exhausted our LLL library for info on nursing strikes and has tried all of
our suggestions and is looking for more help. her son turned a yr old the
end of january. he started running a fever monday (this week), throw up
immediately after nursing tues morn, would start gagging immediately upon
starting to nurse and would pull off. he hasn't nursed since tues nght.
mom is pumping and offering in sippy cup, trying to get to nurse when
wakes at ngiht. no success. she wants to honor his wishes if this is truly
a 'weaning' but she is devasted that he isn't nursing. she had ideas/goals
of extended nursing then weaning 'gradually w/ love.' she is willing to
keep pumping as long as her supply keeps up in hopes that he will go back
tothe breast.
what is the longest nursing strike any of you have heard of a baby
successfully going through and resuming nursing? he's going through a lot
of other things, too; just starting to walk, teething (she says canines
rather than molars even though the molars aren't in). i'd appreciate any
and all suggestions to pass along to her- both of the how to end a nursing
strike and maybe how to deal w/ 'premature weaning' if that is what this
turns into and how totell the difference. thank you again (this is such
marbelous resource!). deborah danzeiser
