The reminiscence about 'scalded lips' on the baby caused by 'hot breasts'
leading to the recommendation to stop bf reminded me of a stupid reason I
heard.

The mother was told (by a health visitor if we're naming professions) that
she couldn't possibly breastfeed her baby. Why? Because the mother had told
her she hardly ever drank cow's milk...'and you need to drink milk to make
milk'. True story.

I am cross with HPs today, having visited a mother of an 11 day old baby
whose community midwife had told her 'your baby must learn to settle after
a feed. Put her down after no more than 10 minutes at the breast, and just
leave her to cry. You'll soon teach her to take her feeds better.'

Fortunately, although the mother did try this, she 'couldn't bear' to
listen to her baby cry and 'gave in'.
