Recently I wrote about an expectant mom whose 2nd child has galactosemia and
wanted to know if it was ok to breastfeed her 3rd child before getting a
diagnosis. Well-she had her 3rd beautiful baby boy last Monday. Dad hopped on
a plane to Atlanta with the cord blood specimen for the geneticist soon after
delivery. The study showed that baby boy #3 is a carrier but does not have
galactosemia. Mom & Dad are very, very relieved!! (Results were received
within 36 hours.) Mom did initiate breastfeeding within 2 hours of delivery
and baby fed beautifully! Now she & baby will happily breastfeeding for a
long time!
Thanks to those who advised to initiate breastfeeding.
