Many women are CMV positive from a past exposure.  Are these women not
able to feed their premature babies or are you talking about women who
currently have the infection?  Just a little confused on the topic..

I believe Nancy was referring to women with active CMV, not just antibodies.
I recently attended a conferance at which Dr. George Sharpe addressed this
issue. It was interesting to note that if more kids were breastfed in the
US, that as women of childbearing age they would already be immune to CMV
and so the rate of congenitally acquired CMV would be reduced. Yet another
benefit of breastfeeding and danger of formula feeding.
