This is correct... which is why those same companies send out "free" cans of
formula to expecting mothers. I know... I received them during both of my
pregnancies. I gave mine away immediately... didn't want them anywhere in
my house. But other women think it's so neat to get these "free" cans,
because they are very expensive in the store. She stores them neatly in her
pantry, in anticipation of her baby's arrival. She wants to breastfeed, but
keeps them there, "just in case". Unfortunately, when it's 2am and her baby
is screaming and she is tired and her well-meaning relative or friend says
to her, "Just give her a little formula. It won't make you a failure and
it's not gonna kill her. You will ALL get some sleep and everyone will be
happier. Stop killing yourself over this.".... the light will go on in her
head and she will realize that she still has that can of formula stashed in
the cupboard... and guess what happens? The baby sleeps for a long time....
everyone is happy and not so tired... and well, maybe it's not such a bad
idea if we just give a little formula at night so we can all sleep or dad
can help out.

All of that... because a formula company sent a mother ONE can of formula.
Indeed, they know EXACTLY what they are doing. I know this to be true...
I've heard several mothers verbalize that they experienced the very same
thing. Sad, but true.
