"I say, what about those of us who fed formula to our babies without the
opportunity to make an informed choice and instead of feeling guilty, feel
angry that we were not protected from making an unhealthy choice on behalf
of our children by the Health Care Community. No one seems to care at all
about our feelings!!

Has anyone EVER ACTUALLY HEARD a mom say that she feels guilty that she
didn't breastfeed?

I don't think I have. I have heard moms say that that the "nurse TRIED to
make them feel guilty that they weren't breastfeeding". Usually the feeling
they are expressing then is anger, towards the nurse.

I think women intuitively know they shouldn't be blamed for their failure at
breastfeeding (here in Canada, most women do try to breastfeed). That's why
they get mad at the nurse. But since no one talks about the role of society
in allowing women to breastfeed succesfully (allow moms to be with their
child, no sabotoge by medical system with interventions and wrong
information, lack of knowledgable and supportive family and friends to learn
from). All health information to promote breastfeeding is aimed directly at
the moms - which seems to place all responsibility directly on her
shoulders.

So she doesn't know that she should be ANGRY at the system that set her up
for failure - strong messages to breastfeed, but many real barriers to
sabatoge her efforts.

You know how we so often hear some health professionals or others say "we
don't want moms feel guilty"?

I think they really mean "we don't want moms to feel ANGRY"!!! (at them).
Somehow these people think they can hide the truth from moms, and the moms
will thus never see how ignorant and unknowledgeable about breastfeeding
they are.

That's why it is vital that we get a venue for moms who HAVE become
educated, and are now ANGRY, to come together and start complaining. This
is why started Moms for Milk Breastfeeding Network.
