Hi All,
I have a question for all the NICU/IBCLC folks on Lactnet. Are your
hospitals still doing gastric lavages on spitty babies? I work (as little
as possible) as a RN-IBCLC at a local hospital and we have had a standing
order from the Peds for years for Gastric Lavage ad lib. Yesterday I went
to my boss and asked him about it because a newly hired nurse is actually
doing this lavage stuff to every spitty baby in our OB dept and I am not
happy about it. I have been looking for info on medline etc and can't find
anything. I will talk to the Peds about it but was wondering if anyone of
you actually has any evidence based info on this and a real live policy and
procedure. This is a real dinosaur. Thank you in advance for any
information.
Warmly,
Star Siegfried RN, BA IBCLC
