Valerie spoke of a mother with red rings due to a pump flange not fitting
correctly although she had a good pump. It reminded me of a mother I
worked with who was pumping for her premie. She developed severe
discoloration around the areolas. She too was using a superior pump.
However, even the best of equipment can go bad. The pump was sent for
repairs. She was given an identical replacement pump that worked correctly
and her pain and bruising disappeared. This mother, by the way, did not
complain. I happened to notice this bruising. She wanted the best for her
baby and just assumed the pain and bruising was the price she had to pay.
She happened to be an RN., by the way.
