These are the WHO guidelines for 2007 for preparing infant formula. I have
not seen recommendations from the AAP or FDA on not boiling the water. Can
you provide a reference, Barbara?

The recommendation is to boil and then quickly cool the water to no less
than 158 degrees F (70 degrees C) before adding to powdered formula that
will be stored for later use. If the facilities are not available to do so,
powdered formula can be reconstituted with clean water immediately before
feeding, but the preferred method is adding formula to boiled and rapidly
cooled hot water (boiled water should not stand for more than 30 minutes
before adding powdered formula). The guidelines are not the same for liquid
formula because it is sterile, unlike powdered formula.

Now with the recent info on Bisphenol A in all formulas, the Environmental
Working Group says that powdered formula is safest, then concentrated
liquid. What about the other contaminants in powdered formula? How do we
choose the lesser of the evils?

Better just stick to breastfeeding.
