Julie,

Poor, poor baby and mommy, too. If this baby cried inconsolably since birth,
it seems to me that he/she is in pain, and since food was likely not the
issue initially might it be the head bruising causing a headache for this infant?
Then the constant crying could increase pain. Is it possible that the babe
has a fractured clavicle? Swaddling would immobilize the arms and help. Just
some thoughts, but also would see if baby is tongue tied and thus feeding
difficult, as well as digestive problems. It could be a combination of things
making this poor child uncomfortable. Sensory integration dysfunction comes to
mind, too. Decreasing stimuli for all senses, darkened room, reduce noise,
firmer touch (another reason swaddling helps rather than skin-to-skin where baby
is freer to flail, tho maybe s-t-s with baby wrapped with cloth around mom
could help).

Do hope a cause for baby's discomfort is found soon for the sake of all
concerned. You must feel awful, but am sure your support and willingness to keep
investigating is helpful to the mom.
