Partial breastfeeding seems a reasonable option. Most meds are less a
concern with an older and non-exclusively breastfeeding infant. However, I
am not at all familiar with this particular medicine, possibly it builds up
to toxic levels? I would suggest getting all the risks and possible options
from the Infant Risk Center, and also find out if there is an alternative
drug or dosing schedule. Also can the baby be tested for his serum level
now and periodically, if there is an issue with rising levels of the drug.
Even if mother formula feeds in some bottles, while she is at work, she
could express her milk and possibly discard (or save for later). This would
keep up her supply which could help if she does choose to give only 2
breastfeeds per day. Some babies will wean if the supply and flow get too
low.
