Hi Brenda,

Good choice to refer on to a pediatrician. TMJ may be a likely candidate,
especially with the popping, and what you are describing also sounds like
crepitus (from oddly overriding sutures or a fracture) as well. Does baby
cry when she reclines only? When she nurses? When the area is touched? Is
there bruising? Did mom have any type of operative delivery (includes
vacuum or forceps) or was baby OP? (occiput posterior) Is baby's cry
high-pitched? What do the fontanelles look like? Does baby move all of her
extremities well otherwise? And one more icky question while I ask about
zebras and not horses (please forgive)--is there any remote chance for abuse
to have occurred?

Hope the definitive answer comes quickly.
