Dear Friends:

This new issue of the great Australian journal Breastfeeding Review has some
lovely articles in it about hand expression of pregnancy milk and storing it
prior to delivery.

The concerns about possibly inducing premature labor are fascinating. When we
think about it, pregnant ladies have lots of reasons to increase their
oxytocin levels: breastfeeding and orgasm being but 2. Our concern about starting
labor when she hand expresses seems to be unfounded.

For a mother whose baby is at high risk of being artificially fed once born,
having syringes full of pregnancy milk to feed this baby is a way to promote
breastfeeding, show that her milk is valuable, and gives her rewards for her
skill in hand expression.

What do you all think?

warmly,
