Maureen,
I share your concern about AWHONN and JOGNN. I am also a long standing
member of AWHONN and have been concerned with the mixed messages in their
journal.
When I received the July/August issue I was very upset that there was no
mention of World Breastfeeding Week, no articles that show support of
breastfeeding and worse the one feeding article was on "Bottle-Feeding
Histories of Preterm Infants". I did write a letter to the editor. I have
not received any reply but then I wasn't really expecting one.
I am not sure how we can show our support without coming across as
"breastfeeding wackos". I have actually gotten quite use to and proud of
this title. (I have been called worse.) My feeling is that somebody has to
stand up and show support and be the advocate and if some people interpret
that as "wacky" behavior that is their problem!!
I think it would be good to show support in numbers. I think a specialty
group is a great idea. How would we go about accomplishing this task?
One good thing I noticed about the last 2 issues of JOGNN was there are no
ads from formula or bottle co. and I know that in the past this journal had
at least a few of these ads. There is some hope. There is no LC on the
editorial board but there is one on the Review panel.
Hope that this info helps to organize support.
                        Fondly,
