I would like to reinforce what Barbara Wilson-Clay said about the ownership of photos, and also extend the protection to drawings and illustrations. In the heat of preparing a presentation, it is always tempting to simply use something that belongs to another person -- but the courtesy of seeking permission from the artist or copyright holder should not be bypassed.
I have found that almost no one will refuse permission for reasonably limited use of graphic material, especially by a low-budget requester like most lactation consultants. But it is sweet for the author or artist to be asked first, and that gratification may be all that they get, so let's not deny it to them.
If use in published material (e.g. a hospital information booklet) is planned, that is a different story and any author or photographer would be reasonable in asking for some payment in addition to our gratitude.
Helen
