ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

At the Centre for Life in Newcastle we are intending to try this approach - we are a life-sciences focussed science centre set within a group of genetics/fertility research groups (with ethics research, biotech companies and other things on site - see www.life.org.uk/). We want to increase the opportunity for debate and dialgue but, given our context, I don't believe it is tenable for us to claim neutrality for the science centre. An exercise we will go through will be to try and define our editorial poilicy (current ideas revolve around the ideas of process and testability as being the driver to the ideas we promote, but we aren't finished talking yet). I'm not aware of many people trying this, so I would love to know if anyone has (and how it was received by the public).

Andy

I was actually trying to get at the question of whether ethical
examination of issues related to science and technology should be a
part of the mission of ASTC institutions?

I've seen exhibits in which visitors were encouraged to consider
ethical issues (for example exhibits in which folks were asked to
consider the different perspectives of rain forest stake holders
relative to land use) -- but, with the exception of exhibits about
cleaning up the environment, have never seen a museum take a particular
stand.
