You've all finally egged me on....

Then there is the "Egg of Columbus" demo that was done back in 1893 at the Chicago World's Fair by Nicola Tesla, et al. In this an egg made from copper or some similar conducting material is placed upon a platter with three coils under it. An adjustable frequency three-phase alternating current is admitted to the coils with the frequency being gradually increased. This will prompt the egg to begin to spin in the same direct as the phase rotation. Eventually the egg will spin fast enough to cause it to stand on end. Must have been cool to watch!

Anyone out there do this in the recent past?  (last 20 years or so) I plan to try this myself sometime.
