Hi Wayne,

This is an odd suggestion but if you could get permission it would be way cool. Gustav Holst recorded the suite twice, once acoustically in 1924 and then with the electric process in 1926. The acoustic recording is better. This was transferred by Pearl Records in England and I bet they'd give you permission if you contacted them.

All the parts are good on this record but Mars, Saturn, Uranus, and Mercury are the best.

Bear in mind this is a 1920s record and there is a fair amount of surface noise but it's a powerful rendition in spite of this. It's easily my most favorite recording of the work. Holst's interpretation is brisk and not at all "sappy" which is unfortunately true of mostlater recordings.

Subject: Music for an Astro DVD?

A week ago I attended an amateur astronomy science meeting, and videoed
about a hour or more. It was pretty much an instantaneous or impromptu
request to do so on my part. I told the board of directors that I would
like to show it on our local community public access TV. They agreed,
but I thought I'd like to do more than just pump out a video. In fact,
I'd like to make it look a bit like a promotional DVD for the
organization. To that end, I would like to add some fitting music. Not
much. Maybe 2-3 minutes for the lead in. Maybe something like The
Planets. However, I do not want to get hung up on copyrighted material.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a short piece that might be freely
usable? Of course, if credits are required on the video, I'd be happy
to provide them. Although I'd probably prefer music, a song is fine if
it's related to astronomy.
