I am pretty sure there are no such studies.  and whatever one might think about blockbuster exhibits (I suspect we agree) they do increase attendance.  all that said, our next big permanent exhibition will be a 8,000 ft2 staffed design/build experience called Design Lab.  So we are believers in floor staff, but its about increased engagement not more visitors. And even there, I am pretty sure there are no studies correlating increased engagement with increased floor staff.  But if I am wrong, someone here will let me know.
