The Hong Kong Science has been introducing 12W LED PAR since April 2010.  Owing to the LED lighting technology was not mature as well as the price was rather high (~US$100 each) at that time, the museum had conducted a pilot test with replacing about 300 nos. of LED bulb at 2 exhibition galleries.  

A basic calculation that the energy saving supersedes the vast capital cost within 2.5 to 3.5 years of running.  However, we anticipate that the labour cost on lighting maintenance will be yet an intangible saving.  So we record and compare the maintenance frequency between three different exhibition galleries of which are installed with traditional incandescent PAR, computerized control dimmed incandescent PAR and LED lighting.  The finding so far is a big different in term of labour saving on these area.  Our studying at this stage is how the labour saving can be converted to other productivity.
