Technopolis has a truck MysteriX which travels to schools.
One class (max 27 students) can follow a 90 min experience in the truck (save the world, by doing science experiments).
MysteriX travels around in Flanders (Belgium) since september 2005. It is the successor of our previous truck Experion which travelled around for 7 years.
The program is specially made for kids of 12-13 y old, all experiemnst fit in the schoolcuriculum. We can do 3 classes a day and typically stay in one city (marketplace) for one or two weeks and invite all schools in the vicinity.
One of our edutainers travels with the truck.
For a picture see http://www.technopolis.be/nl/?n=3&e=45&s=126&t=226 (sorry site is in Dutch)

At the next Ecsite conference there will be two sessions around science trucks/busses/vans. And 5 trucks from different European science centres to visit.

best regards,

Patricia

Hello,

At Explorit we have a well-developed, outreach program with vans
traveling to schools or community centers. Educators unpack bins of
activities in classrooms and auditoriums, thus transforming the room
into a science center for a day.

What I want to know about it is outreach programs where the model is
a bus/ trailer/truck brought to a school and the visitors tromp in- a
museum on wheels. This way the exhibit is there for a longer time so
that more people can experience it . It would also allow us to
introduce items that are too heavy for an educator to unload.

I know of some examples such as Crocker Art Museum's "Art Ark" and
the LA Natural History Museum's themed buses. Are there any other
great examples that I should investigate? Have you or other museums
considered them? Tried them? Abandoned them?

You can post to the list, or directly to me.

Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom!

Explorit's expanding! Read more about the four gallery spaces, how
the building connects to Explorit's current site and when
construction will begin at
