Here are couple sites that might be helpful as a beginning, though they are
not studies, per se. Both sites reference a Massachusetts neighbor of yours,
Robert Kegan, who has been doing work with adult education from a
developmental perspective for several years. You might check out his books
"The Evolving Self" and "In Over Our Heads." And also check out Ken Wilber's
body of work, which is immensely fruitful.
