September 2nd abstract deadline for American Geophysical Union (AGU)
sessions!

Please post to your listserv(s) this call for abstracts for the
following AGU education session. Share it with science educators in
your area and scientists working with science educators.

Consider submitting abstracts to ED18, an education session on citizen
science being offered at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall
Meeting in San Francisco, December 13-17, 2010:

ED18: "Does Citizen-Science Equal Science Plus Public?"

Citizen-science programs are gaining in popularity and have the
potential to benefit participants, extend scientific research, and
improve public understanding of how science is done. This is
accomplished by engaging non-specialists in observations, measurements
or classifications that further scientific activity. Citizen
scientist involvement can range from passive to active, depending on
their interests and the scientific goals of a particular program. Some
programs deal with scientific questions that could not be investigated
effectively without the aid of large numbers of volunteers. Abstracts
may also include lessons learned from current citizen science projects
in space, environmental, biological and geo-sciences, and a discussion
of future directions.

Abstract Deadline: September 2, 2010 (23:59 EDT)

The abstract on-line submission form and submittal instructions are
available from the AGU Web site at http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm10/.
AGU policy allows one "education" abstract to be submitted in addition
to a "science" abstract. If you are not a member of AGU, an AGU member
may sponsor you to submit an abstract. (Contact Connie at [log in to unmask]
