I've had that experience too, and it was with a snake that was in a cage and I knew it was there!  there's definitely something about that rattling sound that stops your heart for just a second.

Thanks Eric.  I heard a somewhat similar report from a colleague years ago, and I chalked it up to personal experience.  Perhaps it was more than "skin deep."
