Here in Minnesota
At the Art Shanty Projects on Medicine Lake there was a shanty, Ped Pex Power Pod, were visitors pedal generated power to heat water to brew coffee. Out on the ice a hot beverage can make the difference between visitng one shanty and visiting all 20.

Following up on Eric's post: the cranked or pedalled generator can boil
an ounce - or 25 ml - of water. It takes a minute or so of hard work
and helps people scale what happens in a 1.5 kw electric kettle.
