Hi, Lynn:

We recently held a focus group here. As compensation, we offered food
(a nice reception, including wine [!!] and dessert) and a gift bag with
items from our gifts store (embroidered hat, book, clock -- mostly
things which we had a surplus of); the bag included a $25.00 American
Express gift card). Feedback from the teachers was that they felt very
well compensated.

We are planning a teacher focus group to inform the program development
for the Children's Library Discovery Center, opening next year at
Queens, NY Central Library. The experience from the front end study for
this project was that getting teachers to attend (we know they are very
busy), even teachers with whom the library had a long time relationship,
was quite a challenge.

We are considering offering a stipend, and wonder what the going rate
is. Our expectations are for no more than a 2 hour meeting.

We appreciate any wisdom you can share.

Thank you,

Lynn Cole
