Remy:

There are a number of factors that make ballparking difficult at this
stage. A good idea would be to search the list-serv archives for
several previous discussions on this topic, one was fairly recent....

Having said those two things - there are two ways to go about it.

If this group of exhibits is going into a substantial area - eg. 3000
square foot, I would use a figure of $250 - $350 a square foot. The
range results from not knowing:
Are these off-the-shelf in so much as you are having someone build a
copy of an existing exhibit component, or are they all from scratch....?
Are you trying to create an 'environment,' or are you just creating
the exhibits as stand alones?

If this is going to be a group of 4-6 exhibit components that are
going to be replicated, then I would try and approach it as a
ballpark-per-unit cost.....Then you might consider using $9K to $11K
per unit.

Its also a function of potential funders attitudes....some understand
the complexity of doing one-off work, that they are funding the
development of a product, rather than just going to walmart and
buying.....

Yet another way to cut the cake is to build a case for funding a
conceptual plan, which would include developing more narrow figures
from said concept plan., then use that plan as your primary funding
tool....

There are always ways of making things more or less
expensive....again, it is often a function of what funders are
willing to do....

Hope this helps....
