ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Having led tons of children though several institutions on trips I
have to say that the gyroscopes don't get the attention that they
could. The ones I have seen are basically bicycle wheels on an axle
handle, and with a low-friction round platform to stand on. With a
docent or good signage, this works well. Otherwise, visitors don't
know exactly what to do and don't know how to generate enough speed
manually to appreciate the effect. When I get the wheel spinning and
hand it to students, they are awed. Otherwise, they give it a couple
of seconds and move on.
