Hi Bill,

We've successfully used web conferencing services such as GoToMeeting, etc. to hold online training meetings with our teens in the Surfin' the Solar Wind<http://www.teensolarinvestigators.org/> program. It's only occasionally when meeting in person on Saturday, our regular meeting day, is not possible (or, more often, more than our over-worked staff can handle). I've also assigned them as a bit of homework online video's to watch in preparation for meetings.

On the other hand, don't assume every teen in the country has access to the Internet. Those that don't often know how to find workarounds (like going to a friend's house or the library), but then you're talking about only the most dedicated kids.

Best of luck,

Dan

Hi, everyone -

The Learning Experiences team at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History is hoping to get some quick feedback on a question we have about youth volunteer training:

Are you or anyone you know using any form of online mechanism to support training, community-building, and/or mentoring of youth/teen volunteers? Of other youth program participants? Of training for non-youth volunteers?

We're thinking here of training videos, a dedicated discussion board, social media network, etc.

We'd appreciate any descriptions, leads, links, etc. that you are willing to share.

Thanks!

Bill
