Hi David,

For your information and maybe some food for thought for your discussions on
art-based learning, ASTC's "International action on GLObal warming" (IGLO
www.astc.org/iglo) promotes this kind of learning in various ways. The
latest post on our IGLO web site is about the partnership we help organize
with Xavier Cortada, an artist in residence at the Museum of Science in
Miami. He will create an installation at the North Pole this 30 June and
invites everyone to join him. Congresswoman Rep. Ros-Lehtinen (18th District
of Miami) has written to fellow members of Congress urging them to
collaborate with science centers through ASTC, and plant a native tree and a
flag specially designed by Cortada on that day. Please read more on the IGLO
website.
If you do so, you can also go to an archived item about "Melting Ice" a
project of the "Natural World Museum" http://www.astc.org/iglo/?p=108
Melting Ice was created by the Natural World Museum in partnership with the
United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to address the theme of climate
change from a global perspective - the melting and thawing of ice, snow and
permafrost are environment-altering changes taking place around the world -
from the Andes to the Himalayas to the melting ice caps of the Poles.
Participating artists come from all over the globe. Their new project:
"Moving Towards A Balanced Earth - Kick the Carbon Habit" was just launched
at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington, New Zealand
for UN World Environment Day 2008.

We are happy to provide you with all additional information you may need.

Subject: Use Arts Resources? Brainstorming Session New York June 18, 5:30pm

If you use arts resources or other hands-on creative approaches to teaching
the sciences, math or engineering, we're holding a brainstorming session
next Wed (June 18) in NYC for ideas about how best to pool and share
approaches, resources, etc.

We're planning a series of conferences on Arts-based Learning and Science
Education in 2009 and thought it a good idea to think about how best to
build a social network and pool resources/build a knowledge base to support
science educators who have had good results from using arts approaches (or
who harbor grand ambitions to do so).

We'll meet 6/19 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at 15 West 26th Street (2nd floor).
Copious refreshments will be served.

If you're interested and/or have questions contact me at
[log in to unmask], or 646-442-4449.
