ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers

Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Nonprofits are not at risk for advocacy provided that they do not exceed 20% of their first $500,000 of income. Many nonprofits lobby their local governments, the state governments, and some even lobby the federal government. ASTC was founding with an NSF grant that was the result of lobbying by several large science centers. I would hope our political preferences would include calling out elected representatives who deny scientific facts, damage science education, or scientific research.

For a clear description of what may be legally spent on lobbying please see

Hi All,

I agree with Charlie Stout's basic premise. We ought to keep the focus on museum relevant activities, concerns, exhibits, STEM education, etc. Clearly, there are going to be points of social and political overlap, and differences of opinion. It's really a question of degree and our commitment to a shared experience.
