*www.ScienceAfterSchoolConference.org<http://www.scienceafterschoolconference.org/>

The National Conference on Science & Technology in Out-of-School Time, hosted
by Coalition for Science After School
<http://www.scienceafterschool.org/>and Project
Exploration <http://www.projectexploration.org/>, is being held September
17-19, 2008 at the Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois. This first-ever
conference will bring together a national cross-section of program
providers, researchers, and policy-makers in the growing movement for
science and technology in out-of-school time. Sessions will include
research-based best practices, curriculum development and evaluation, with a
particular focus on equity and access issues for underrepresented
populations.

Who is the conference for?
This conference is targeted at national and local leaders, researchers,
program service providers, policymakers, informal science institution
leadership, leaders of community based organizations, and researchers and
policy-makers tracking national trends in innovation and workforce
development. We will bring together approximately 200 stakeholders.

Where and when will the conference be held?
• We will host an evening reception on September 17th.
• Workshops will be held September 18-19 at Navy Pier in Chicago.

*What are the conference goals?*

   - Raise awareness about the importance and opportunity inherent in out of
   school time science programs to impact students' lives and expand the career
   pipeline;
   - Present a research-based national landscape of science in out of school
   time: What best practices are emerging? What program design and evaluation
   tools are available? What trends are being identified? What work needs to be
   done?
   - Build capacity in the science in out of school time field by providing
   professional development training;
   - Facilitate the creation of a local and national community of practice:
   foster collaborations and communication amongst providers of after-school
   STEM programs and resources; bring together leaders in the field.
