Eric,

Yes, I was just about to recommend the same thing. BMA, London 
Science, and SAAM had a panel at Museums and the Web 07 were they 
spoke about their practices with using blogs, flickr, and so on.

There was a fairly consistent stream of questions at the conference 
about how institutions could handle the 2.0 side of the web. Should 
they restrict posting by visitors, and how often should they respond 
to their blogs. Those questions seemed to stem from busy people 
trying to figure out how much time to give to it.

At the sessions I attended, I didn't see the question of 'if it's ok' 
for staff to have a museum blog. The gist of it seemed to be any 
press is good press.

Ideum + Powerhouse Museum presented a paper called "Radical Trust: 
The State of the Museum Blogosphere". Doesn't answer your particular 
query, but might be helpful.
