Help AAAS Bring Science Everywhere in your Community!

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is
seeking communities to join its NSF-funded Partnership for Science
Literacy as online collaborating partners. With "Science. It's
Everywhere!" as its theme, this initiative seeks to empower families -
particularly Hispanic/Latino, African-American, and other diverse
communities - to take an active role in their children's science
education. The Partnership now seeks to expand in up to 20 additional
communities that share an interest in involving traditionally
"hard-to-reach" parents and families. These partners would conduct an
inventory of available science resources in their communities to develop
local versions of an online English/Spanish Family Guide to Science to
be placed on the Partnership's website (www.ScienceEverywhere.org)
hosted by TryScience.org. AAAS will provide these communities with a
small start-up stipend and materials that have been developed for the
initiative.

Interested science centers should send a brief statement (400 words or
less) describing their interest, the nature of their current outreach to
this target audience, and how their participation in this project would
be valuable to the organization and the community. Also include an email
address for the appropriate contact person. Emails should be sent to
AAAS's Stacey Pasco ([log in to unmask]) by Feb. 2, 2004. General questions
may be directed to Judy Kass, project director, Public Understanding of
Science & Technology, AAAS Directorate for Education and Human Resources
Programs, at 202-326-6667.
