Phil, I don't know whether to ignore you or to respond, so I guess you're
doing a good job of egging me on!

One's methodology, I would suspect, depends on what one is studying.

I agree with you to this extent:  one of the things that leads to a good
exhibit is that the process is not completely codified.  It ain't paint by
numbers.

However, what you call intution is, and again I suspect, a process of
applying barely concious information and experience.

I, yet again I suspect, and many of our colleagues, find the research both
stimulating and illuminating.  And this research becomes part of a library
of experience I can refer to, if and when I am so inclined.  You, on the
other hand seem to want to burn the books.

I'm sure a lot of people think you and I have easy jobs because we play with
exhibits all the time.  You seem to be applying the same sort of bias to an
expert culture which is contributing to our common body of knowledge, our
library.

Or, to put it another way, its easy to bash what we don't understand.
