Hi Paul, Building a large Van de Graaff was my first project when I worked at the Museum of Scientific Discovery in Harrisburg, PA. It was about 10' tall, with a top electrode sphere 4 feet in diameter. We used to get sparks 4 - 5 feet long. That museum has closed, and the Van de Graaff went to the Whitaker Center, which may or may not still be using it. You might be able to acquire that machine.

One of our most popular demonstrations was an accurate depiction of what Ben Franklin did in his famous lightning experiment.

Dear friends,
Our museum's Education Department is planning a demonstration on
lectricity based on the success of their "combustion" shows. Will
omeone please recommend a fabricator that creates large Van de Graaff
enerators? Also, if you have any suggestions on electrical demos you
hink would work well for a show we would love to hear them.
Thank you, Paul
