The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria is pleased to announce the following 6 day intensive on-campus learning opportunities for museum and heritage professionals.

Courses can be taken on a non-credit basis or for credit toward a Diploma in Cultural Resource Management, a Professional Specialization Certificate in Collections Management, or a Professional Specialization Certificate in Heritage Conservation Planning.

Spring 2011 On-campus courses:
*         Exhibit Design and Installation<http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/aspnet/Course/Detail/?code=HA488K>: January 24 - 29. Learn to create powerful visitor experiences through planning, designing, fabricating, installing, and maintaining interpretive exhibitions that encourage museum visitor's understanding, participation, and emotional engagement.
Instructor: Darcie Fohrman: brings 40 years experience as an interpretive planner, exhibition designer and developer, and creative director. She taught exhibition development and design at John F. Kennedy University and is a founding member of the National Association for Museum Exhibition.

*         Caring for Museum Collections<http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/aspnet/Course/Detail/?code=HA488D>: February 21 - 26. Develop your capacity to ensure the care and safe handling of diverse collections in storage and on exhibition by focusing on important preventive conservation principles and practices.
Instructor: Susan L. Maltby: is a conservation consultant specializing in artifact treatment, care and management, and conservation guidelines for exhibits, museums and heritage structures. Previously, Susan worked as a Conservator with the Canadian Conservation Institute and as a Fellow at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution.

*         Heritage Conservation Planning<http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/aspnet/Course/Detail/?code=HA489L>: March 21- 26. Consider practical approaches to planning for the conservation and management of heritage resources that are grounded in core principles and integrate the perspectives of multiple stakeholders.
Instructor: Harold D. Kalman, PhD: is a renowned heritage conservation consultant, author and speaker is currently the Principal of the Vancouver office of Commonwealth Historic Resource Management Limited. Harold is the Founding President of the B.C.  Association of Heritage Professionals and has served on the boards of the Association for Preservation Technology and the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals.

*         Cultural Landscapes<http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/aspnet/Course/Detail/?code=HA489G>: Explore ways in which diverse cultural landscapes are valued and managed. Develop your ability to identify, evaluate and develop preservation strategies for landscape resources.
Instructor: Wendy Shearer: is a landscape architect for MHBC Planning with 25 years experience specializing in the research, documentation, assessment and conservation planning of cultural heritage landscapes. Wendy has been involved in numerous heritage projects throughout Ontario has worked on the restoration and management planning of several historic parks, gardens and estates.
