I've used IKEA furniture and parts in several exhibits over the years. But it has been my experience that they almost always required a bit of reinforcement or alteration. For example the metal mounting plates and bolts for the legs might be just fine but the particle Board or MDF of the table top itself would not do. The screws would just pull right out with the most modest of stress. I've added plywood or hardwood (Poplar) plates to give the screws or bolts something better to grip. I've done this with their small ottomans and couches.

I would also strongly suggest actually going to IKEA and taking a hard look at the stuff before purchase. Not all IKEA is made the same and the price is not always the indicator of strength or quality.

Good luck with that.

I we creating a flight simulator exhibit and need a table to mount three monitors, flight controls and a hood that will cover the three monitors. I was thinking of going with IKEA as they have the size we need, we can adjust the table height a bit and, as we are installing multiple stations, we can order many tables at once. We would like to build something permanent but as you can expect this is just the first phase so we need to have the option of relocating the simulators.
