You might want to check out two papers authored by Thomas R. Lord.  In these papers he focuses his studies on college undergraduates.  (Undergrads are technically adults, aren't they?)

Lord, Thomas R. (1997).  A comparison between traditional and constructivist teaching in college biology.  "Innovative Higher Learning", 21, 197-216.
