ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

In Pensacola, at the far western end of the Panhandle, is the National Naval
Aviation Museum (www.navalaviationmuseum.org). This is one of the country's
finest aviation museums, with a remarkable collection of planes, beautifully
restored and presented. You'll find lots on the history of aviation,
including the technology of planes, engines, air warfare throughout the 20th
and into the 21st centuries, and aircraft carriers.

A much smaller but also very interesting aviation museum is the Air Force
Armaments Museum in Destin (http://www.afarmamentmuseum.com/). As the name
says, this is mostly about bombs and missiles, and the planes are mostly
outdoors and not all in great condition. But you can walk right up to and
all around the planes, with an especially fascinating collection of WWII and
cold war-era machines.

In Tallahassee you might enjoy seeing the National High Magnetic Field
Laboratory (www.magnet.fsu.edu/). No history of technology, but tons
(literally) of state of the art technology. Tours are by appointment only,
however, so check the web site and e-mail well in advance.

Cheers,
Alan
