The Centre for Life is an award-winning science centre that encourages curiosity about science through imaginative exhibitions, events, workshops and lectures that are enjoyed by more than 200,000 visitors every year.



The Centre also supports world-class scientific research taking place on site.



Science Festival Manager - £35,000 per annum



The Newcastle Science Festival is an annual programme of science events that takes place in venues across Newcastle and Gateshead.  The festival is coordinated by the Centre for Life, working with a range of partner organisations including One North East, Newcastle Science City, Tyne & Wear Museums and the Universities of Newcastle, Durham and Northumbria.  From 2008 the Festival will take place each October.



As Science Festival Manager, you will be responsible for the detailed planning and project management (budget and programme) for the festival.  You will supervise at least one Science Festival Coordinator who organises individual events and will coordinate some specific events directly.  You will be a public face of the festival and will liaise with the delivery partners, funders and other stakeholders.



Your previous experience in public events and/or science communication will have included significant budget and programme responsibility and you will have experience of managing staff and contractors.  The post is offered as a fixed term contract of 3-years initially, with the possibility of extension subject to ongoing festival funding.
