A Silent Cry for Dark Skies
by Connie Walker, National Optical Astronomy Observatory

This issue of the newsletter is released just in time for the GLOBE
at Night citizen science campaign, taking place now through March 8,
2008. Focused on measuring light pollution and taking action to
reduce it, this is the perfect project to get your students involved
in real science. The issue gives some background information on light
pollution, focusing on its effects on plant and animal life, and
let's you know how you and your students can get involved.

Topics include:
* Light pollution and its impacts
* Adverse effects on sea turtles, frogs, salamanders, fish, insects,
and plants
* The GLOBE at Night campaign and how your class can get involved
* Classroom activity: "Demonstrating Light Pollution & Shielding"
