Erosion tables are also very engaging.

I helped develop an interactive workstation, Stories in Stone, here at the
Da Vinci Sciecne Center that is designed to engage visitors in inquiry about
earth materials, specifically about how to decipher the history of a rock
from its texture and composition.  Feel free to contact me off-list if you
