Aloha,

Check out the NPS exhibit conservation website:

http://www.nps.gov/hfc/products/cons/ex-con.htm

Their "Exhibit Conservation Guidelines" can be ordered from the site
and/or you can get consultation from them. They are more than worth
the $50 it costs for the CD. I've found it to be an invaluable resource.

Stainless steel and acrylic are good materials for your project.
Silicone off-gasses acetic acid among other things and you should stay
away from it. I can't offer an alternative without knowing
more details about how you plan to use it.

Richard Duggan

PS- I would have sent this off list, but don't know your email address.

Hello, can anyone tell me how I might find out more about materials that

could degrade biological specimens? Specifically, we are creating a
small

display for some pinned butterflies and need to know if steel, acrylic
or

silicone inside the sealed case might affect them.

Thanks,
