Keep abreast of emerging developments in museum education, from exhibit
design to outreach in schools, by attending the G. Brown Goode
Smithsonian Education Lecture Series, hosted by the Smithsonian Center
for Education and Museum Studies.
The next lecture in the series, "Learning Across Time and Place: The
Role of Museums in the Informal Educational Landscape," will be
presented Monday, March 3, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Hirshhorn's Ring
Auditorium. The program will be webcast live and archived for future
viewing at museumstudies.si.edu

The lecture will feature two speakers: Phillip Bell, associate professor
of the learning sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle, and
co-chair of the National Research Council's Informal Science Learning
Committee; and Bronwyn Bevan, director of the Exploratorium's Center for
Informal Learning and Schools.
A companion program, "The Role of Museums in Formal Education," will be
held Tuesday, May 6. Bob Bain, associate professor of history and social
studies education at the University of Michigan, will talk about his
multi-year study of teaching and learning history in museums and with
museum resources. This program will also be web cast.
