ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

There is a long history in science museums of "pedal this to power
that to get some meaningful visceral measurement of energy required
to do X". I just thought of a fun one to add to the mix:

Take the hood and the engine out of a car and put a bicycle there
that they have to peddle to move the car. it's a natural group
activity- the pedaler is just an engine- someone else drives, and I'm
sure the engine will get humorously heckled. Ideally there would be
a light car and a heavy one. I'm sure you can get a hummer cheap
these days.

I remember a Gahan Wilson cartoon of this. The gas station
attendant opens the hood and the guy chained in there says "For god's
sake, call the cops!"
