Hi Martin
Have you come across Richard Ellis? He produced a beautiful life-size model
of a squid for the National Museums of Scotland, Chambers Street in
Edinburgh, Scotland ~ 1995/96 as part of our World Oceans Day celebrations
that year. He actually sat in the main hall painting it before it was hung
from the ceiling so that public could observe and interact with him, which
worked really well.
Here's a wee bit from his biography
Richard Ellis, recognized as one of America's foremost painters of marine
natural history subjects, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
He's published numerous books and articles, including "The Search for the
Giant Squid" (Published October, 1998.)
Here are a couple of weblinks and his contact details.

Not "squidding" around... Does anyone know of an exhibit source for
purchasing life-size, plexiglass (or other materials) animals that can be
hung from ceilings as decoration. We are looking for a giant squid model.
